Headmistress' weekly letter
The first full week of the Spring Term is coming to a close and although our community is spread across four continents, 12 countries, and many counties of the United Kingdom, I am pleased to say that Godstowe pupils continue to thrive.
It was so motivating to present the Main School assembly this morning: Boarders of the Week Awards, Sports Stars, Accelerated Readers, ABRSM Music Grades, wonderful artwork, and birthdays were all celebrated. Franklin House nudged into the lead with House points and it was very endearing to hear and see the girls’ exclamations and expressions when the yellow shield was presented. To be played out in real-time by Mr Serpetti performing a Beethoven sonata from his home was a wonderful end to our assembly.
The girls and boys have achieved a great deal this week and learning is going ahead full steam. I can’t emphasise enough the importance of getting outside as much as possible and now that the evenings are just starting to get a little lighter for a little longer there is more opportunity for that at the end of the day as well, in spite of the mud that is almost knee-deep on most of the walks that Meg and I venture out on.
Walking around the school site, it is a pleasure to visit the various Critical Worker School bubbles. Albeit it from a distance, over the last few days, I have seen Beginners children go for a walk to hunt for fairies, Kindergarten working on New Year’s Resolutions, Transition making fruit salad, and Main School girls having their remote music lessons and taking part in their live PE lessons. What a strange world, but how amazing to think that we can achieve all this whilst ensuring that we can be safe and respect Lockdown.
As we settle into our new routines, I would like to thank all of our parents and families for the overwhelming support that they show to our community as well as for their children’s learning. This is of tremendous value to us. I look forward to seeing many parents at one of our Virtual Coffee Mornings, taking place from next week.
Wishing you a calm, safe, and relaxed weekend.
