Drama & Productions
We are very pleased that every year group in Main School, from year 3 to year 8, now has Drama on their timetable once a week. Girls explore key Drama skills such as use of facial expressions, body language and voice production; improvisation, devising, storytelling and script work; development of character creation, collaboration and confidence.
At the start of the school year, year 7 and 8 can participate in the first main school production, performed shortly before the Christmas holidays - 2023 saw a hit version of “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens. Next, the year 5 production is in the Spring Term with all girls in the year group involved - March 2024 will be the turn of “Kitty Whittington” by Tom Kirkham and Matthew Crossey, an all-singing, all-dancing girl power rags to riches story! Finally, the Summer term brings the year 3 and 4 showcase as well as open-air Shakespeare, performed by year 6 out in the grounds of Godstowe.
Speech and Drama is also on offer at Godstowe, with a huge number of girls exploring the LAMDA syllabus as part of the enrichment curriculum (after-school programme) from Reception up and the opportunity to take performance exams at least twice a year for those in Main School. Theatre visits and other in-person Drama experiences are also a vital part of the learning experience at Godstowe.
Godstowe has a fantastic performance space in the JK Theatre, which was opened in 2013, with multi-purpose staging and seating configurations. The theatre is also used for concerts, after-school clubs, assemblies, parents' evenings and exhibitions.
