Miss Bailey's Blog - Week 20, 2024
Somehow, we have whistled to half term, and we are left wondering how we got here so quickly! What a five weeks it has been, and as we waved off our Canadian skiers yesterday, on their way to Jasper with our intrepid staff team and I've watched our home team come together to deliver a terrific Spring Open Morning on Wednesday, there is a lot to be proud and grateful for. I had a super call with the GSA (Girls' School Association) today and Godstowe will be joining its ranks in the coming weeks, which will provide lots of opportunities for our girls and staff going forward.
As you know, I have been touring classrooms across the whole school (with Lodge and Nursery before Christmas) and I've loved every minute of my visits. This is always a chance for me to re-engage with the best aspects of Godstowe and to spend quality time with your daughters and their teachers. This week, I've marvelled in maths with Mrs Cox and Year 3 and volume and capacity has been taught through coloured potions and teamwork, I've taken trips back to my childhood learning in EAL with Year 7, TPR with Mrs Lake in Year 6 and French with Madame Labourdette with Year 8. Great thought and time goes into planning and delivering these classes and Mr Hanson's Year 6 Science lesson took me right back to GCSE, no less, as we took a tour through the human knee and joints. Mrs Moore's Year 4 persuasive writing English class was fun and inspiring, and I felt suitably flattered (Year 4 will know what I mean, here!) A humbling view of Mrs Sloggett's art class with Year 7 on Tuesday, reminded me of the tremendously high standard of work that is produced, not only across the school in classes but also by our talented scholars, whose 2024 art portfolios are an absolute knock-out, quite frankly.
We truly do not shout of the daily merits and high standards set in our wonderful school enough, in my view. I always love our Open Mornings because it's a chance to sing those accolades from the top of the mountain! And we certainly did that on Wednesday to our new and returning visitors. Our Year 8 tour guides did an outstanding job, too.
We announced 4 new initiatives for September which includes a new daily London Brook Green Bus Service, a weekly accompanied train service to Marylebone, an extended day care service in Lodge to 6.30pm and and an opportunity for our Beginners (reception) children and beyond, to join all local bus routes. If you would like more details, please do contact Nic Beck at [email protected].
Good luck to our adventuring skiers this half term, and travel and ski well in the next week. Thank you to you all, for your support and company- Godstowe is charging ahead, and we have exciting times to come. Have a wonderful half term and we look forward to our return, with a second half, full of productions, concerts, trips, activities, public speaking, boarding bliss, fixtures, good news and achievement. Watch this space and see you back on Monday 19th February. Holiday well, everyone!
