Godstowe girls at IAPS Tennis Tournament

On 14th & 15th July, Ellie Stopps and Phoebe Fox went to Eton to take part in the IAPS tennis tournament.

On the first day they played doubles and won all of their group matches, therefore qualifying for the knock out rounds. Unfortunately they then lost the next match. On the Tuesday they were back again, this time to play singles. Once again both girls won all of their group matches and were psyched up and ready for their next opponents in the knock out stage. Having played tennis for two days in the heat, Ellie and Phoebe had to dig deep to find the energy to carry on playing at 6pm. Phoebe played first and fought for every point, with rallies of up to 60 shots! She managed to come back from 5-1 down to 5-4, against a very strong opponent! Her shot placement and depth were outstanding. Alas, in the end she lost 6-4. 

Ellie was next, against a formidable player, renowned for being able to get every ball back. Ellie tried everything, every type of shot and tactic but this girl just kept returning every ball. Another lengthy battle ensued, the score staying close but once again it was not to be and Ellie's tournament came to an end. 

The standard of tennis was extremely high and Ellie and Phoebe's efforts were magnificent.
