Year 7 girls wrote botanical character poems this week in their English class, in celebration of National Poetry Day. Here are some of the poems:

Summer

written by Alice G 7L

Summer was as soft as a daisy.

She was nothing but a lovely sweet girl.

Summer was as happy as a sunflower,

And as pretty as a rose.

Her hair was as silky as a butterflies wing,

And her hair was as orange as a painted lady butterfly,

Summer was as light and dainty as a gladioli,

Her hair was as neat as a tulip,

And her dress was as yellow as a daffodil.

She stood out like an orchid,

And she ran like the wind.

She was a glowing firefly,

And she glittered like glitter.

Now you must have guessed that Summer is not an ordinary girl,

She is nothing but a Fairy.

Her wings were decorated in patterns made out of a spider's web.

And she was loved by all the animals out there.

Coral

written by Chloe M, 7L

Coral is fragile, gets hurt easily.

Nasty people come and break her.

Coral is pretty and colourful,

loud as fireworks with beautiful bright uplifting neons.

Coral is giving and protective, spreading kindness and joy.

Coral is loyal, permanent like the sea bed.

She will never leave you and you always know where to find her.

Botanical Poem based on the Sally Poem

Annabelle W 7L

She is a tulip,

Open, bright and beautiful.

Her eyes gleam in the sunshine.

Calm as a butterfly,

Free as a dahlia, open and wide,

That’s on good days, when she walks with pride.

But on bad days,

She is a weeping willow tree,

Drooping her head as she walks.

Clinging to whoever is near

lightly with her fingers

As she lingers.

Rose

written by Amina

She was a rose kind of girl

Leaping through dark times with grace

Nothing without a rainbow.

Tall like a willow

She never feels fallow

Always has a glow

As her stem of courage grows

Keen to learn

The brightest girl you’ve ever seen

Always serene

A rose girl called Irene.

Notes

My character represents lovely little girls who is always growing and learning. They are pretty nice smelling and clever. A good girl, a ‘goody two shoes’ who likes everyone; graceful, only rude when angry.

A rose represents my character the most, as the human traits of a pink rose are: purity, innocence, grace, gentleness. A rose has some thorns so that would explain why she is mean sometimes.
