Godstowe donates £1,000 to Royal British Legion
Godstowe Preparatory School visited the Royal British Legion’s shop in High Wycombe in February to present a cheque to the charity.
Through the sales of ceramic poppies made by pupils for Remembrance Day in November, the school raised £1,000 for the Poppy Appeal.
Inspired by the impressive display of ceramic poppies at the Tower of London to mark the 100th anniversary of World War I, Godstowe’s Head of Art Mrs Nina Sloggett masterminded the school’s own ceramic poppy display outside the front of school. More than 200 girls made their own ceramic poppy during their art classes, which were then planted in the flowerbeds during the months of October and November. A special Remembrance Day service was held around the school’s impressive display.
After the display was taken down, the girls were able to take their poppy home and parents made voluntary donations to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. The total donations amounted to £1,000, which was passed onto the Royal British Legion during a special presentation on Wednesday.
