Recognition for excellent work by Godstowe girls
With the new school term having only just begun, Godstowe already has some excellent achievements to announce.
Last term, girls from Godstowe submitted entries to the I Love Amazon Schools Young Reporter Competition, run by WWF and Sky. This September it was announced that Skye Hicks (written category) and Jasmine Adams (film category) were chosen as runners-up in the competition.
Sky News presenter Lorna Dunkley, who judged the competition, was very impressed with both girls’ work, as well as the excellent quality of the work submitted by the other girls at Godstowe: “The (news) reports from Godstowe Preparatory School set out clear arguments and were very well presented with good pictures. The children clearly have good I.T. skills. There was a good use of interviews to illustrate points and good reporting from all those who took part.
“The standard of video entries from Godstowe Preparatory School was very high overall. The children clearly had fun making the reports and I hope they learnt a lot too!”
In recognition of this, WWF and Sky have presented Godstowe with a prize of a selection of rainforest books for the library, in addition to the individual prizes for Skye and Jasmine.
It was also revealed this week that five of our girls have been shortlisted as potential prize winners in the Wycombe Abbey Junior Schools’ Poetry Competition. Wycombe Abbey received more than 100 entries and Carlota de Duenas Saenz, Talia Dicks, Malvika Kheterpal, Gladys Li and Kendra Morris have been selected to attend a special Poetry Masterclass on Friday 18th September, where they may be in with a chance of taking home a prize.
