Godstowe book now on sale
Newly released hardback book giving a fascinating insight into Godstowe's history is now available to buy
Godstowe has recently republished an updated and modernised version of ”Godstowe: An Informal History”. The first edition of
the book was originally published in 2001 to celebrate 100 years of the school’s history, and it was felt that, with the current Headmaster shortly retiring, the time was right to produce a second edition.
Heather Morley, a current Godstowe parent, masterminded the project having approached David Gainer (Headmaster) some time ago suggesting not only that it was time for the book to be updated but she would be very happy to organise and edit the second edition. Gresham Books, who published the first edition, also produced this edition and you can read Mrs Morley’s journey of putting together the book on the Gresham website: https://www.gresham-books.co.uk/godstowe-school-updating-classic/
The school is delighted with the outcome and it gives a fascinating and very interesting insight into the 117 year history of the school and reminds everyone of its reputation and pedigree. It is historically renowned and, of course, is the very first all-girls’ preparatory school to be established in 1900. You can imagine how much has taken place at the school during the course of these years and generations of girls and some boys will look back on a career at the school with great fondness.
Since David Gainer has been involved in the further development of Godstowe since 2006, we are delighted that the new chapters give such a colourful insight into not only everything that has changed over the last 11 years but also that which has remained the same. Godstowe is indeed a modern blend of traditional values.
Having very kindly been given a generous contribution towards the preparation of this book we find ourselves being able to offer them for sale at only £10, which represents a significant saving on what might have otherwise been £20 or more. It is our intention, on the occasion of Mr Gainer’s final Prize Day, to present all of the Fourths with a complimentary copy.
This is a limited edition book so once they are gone, they're gone! Therefore, don't delay – get your copy today!
