Mary Berry officially opened Godstowe’s Food Technology Room on Friday 19th May.

“The Chef’s Kitchen”, as it is now known, was completely refurbished in April using funds donated by Friends of Godstowe and now features a brand new, fully equipped kitchen.

Mary Berry, who lives nearby in Penn and whose daughter attended Godstowe, met with eight of our Year 8 school monitors before heading up to the new kitchen and cutting the red ribbon. The television chef was very impressed with the new facility and explained to the girls how her own love for cooking began at school.

The Headmaster, David Gainer, organised a special assembly for the girls in Main School (Years 3 to 8) following the opening, where the school held it’s very own “Godstowe Bake Off”, judged by Mary Berry. Six volunteers – one from each year group – were asked to cook a Victoria sponge and submit it into the Bake Off. In true Bake Off style, Mary carefully judged each cake on its taste and texture. The winner was Olivia Justice from Year 4 and the runner up was Poppy Adams from Year 5. Mary presented a very happy Olivia with a singed version of her latest book “Mary Berry Everyday”.

“It was a great honour to have Mary Berry visit Godstowe”, said David Gainer. “She was wonderfully engaging and the girls thoroughly enjoyed meeting her. The Chef’s Kitchen, which wouldn’t have been possible without the generous funds raised by our parents, is a fantastic facility and the pupils at Godstowe are looking forward to using it for many years to come.”
